Savannah and Merel both live and work in Cape Town, South Africa. In this blog they share their best and most fun things to do and see in and around the ‘Mother City’.
Latest update: March 2020.
1. Play Putt Putt Golf

If you ever found yourself on the edge of Sea Point, wandering around aimlessly, you should eventually come across the Putt-Putt Golf Course. Open 24/7 (depending on the weather) with two courses of 18 holes each. Now mind you, it might not seem like a lot from a distance, I’ll admit. However, I can promise you that once you set foot on the first course, the competitive flame in you will ignite. This place, like many others in Cape Town, is absolutely great for both young and old.
First you will need to select your club, as well as your golf ball (I picked the black colored one). Once that is done, you will pick up your score sheet and a pencil to keep score – so that you can later prove to everyone that you are the best of the best. Depending on your confidence levels, you can choose to start with the harder one, or take it a little easier. Once you have taken your pick, it’s time for the battle to begin!!
And may the best mini golfer win (I totally won).
2 & 3. Visit the Mojo Market & Teawesome

The Mojo Market, along with the promenade, is one of Sea Point’s main attractions. It is unmissably posted in a corner of Main Road where the music and amazing smells will attract any curious passerby. I’d recommend going there on an empty stomach, as you will most certainly want to try every single thing from every single food stall.
Yes, it’s that good.
We personally had the pleasure of tasting the awesome bubble tea at Teawesome (see what I did there?). No matter how much of a sweet tooth you have, they cater to all. You get to choose the sweetness levels of your treat. Caution, it is pretty sweet even at 30% sweetness!! I speak from experience.
If you’re accidentally stumble upon the market on an already full stomach, do not worry!! There is some shopping to be done!! You will find handmade, artisanal goodies in the boutiques the market displays. And if you aren’t in a mood to shop, there is usually some live music events going on.
So really, there is something for everyone at the Mojo Market. Do not miss out!!!
4. Rent Electric scooters at Electrek

As a kid, I remember always wanting one of those electric scooters. Every Christmas and birthday, it was at the top of my list.
Spoiler alert; I never got one.
So imagine my excitement when I heard you could rent one for a trip here in Sea Point!! We drove ourselves to the Queens beach circle and parked the car for a much smaller mode of transportation. Although a little scary at first, we quickly got comfortable and started speeding past innocent passersby.
A little piece of advice, stick to the pavement instead of the promenade, unless you enjoy feeling your brain move around in your cranium. The paving on the promenade does not agree with the small wheels of the scooter and will make you understand what it feels like to be an electric toothbrush.
The experience as a whole was highly enjoyable and we found out those little guys can go pretty fast.
5. Enjoy ice cream at The Creamery

On our little trip with the scooters, we stopped by The Creamery. I do think that every person in Cape Town should know of the Creamery. There are around five shops in and around Cape Town; they specialize in making all-natural ice cream with ingredients they find and buy at local farms.
Being so environmentally friendly, their flavors vary depending on seasons, they are constantly updating their menu so that it is impossible to get bored of it. If you are not someone who enjoys sweet things so much, do not worry, they also offer other things. They are, after all, still a café.
6. Walk or cycle on the Promenade

The promenade is Sea Point’s main attraction. If you come to Sea Point, chances are you are here for the promenade. Every single local knows of it, and most people have been there multiple times. It is never the same experience twice.
The sights are different each time, as the weather changes, even during the cold winter, you will still find people either walking or cycling down. It is also great for kids, as there are multiple jungle gyms on the way, each more intricate than the other.
We, of course, walked the promenade. But we also stopped to enjoy a refreshing freshly squeezed, homemade lemonade and a sandwich by the pavilion, where you will find a few food stands. Chips, ice cream, crepes, sandwiches and famous local braai food, you will find it all there.
7 & 8 Flowers and coffee

With Valentine’s Day coming up at the time, we could not skip over the beautiful Bittersweet floral studio at the corner of main road. As soon as you come in, you will not only be greeted by the friendly clerk, but also by the aroma of the handmade bouquets exhibited all over the quaint little shop. There, you can also find some pretty decorative items to put all over your house.
Once you have ordered your flowers, you can go enjoy a nice warm cup of hot chocolate at the Naked Café. We also had the pleasure of tasting their Canele as well as their Banana Bread (which you have the option of buying a loaf of), and as you may have guessed, all was delicious.
They offer a wide variety of pastries and breakfasts for all. Whether you are on a diet or simply want to enjoy your time in Cape Town, they will have what you are looking for.
9. Paragliding from Signal Hill to the Promenade

As our final adventure, we decided to really take a leap. Literally!
We jumped off of Signal Hill and skidded down in the air, to land on the Sea Point promenade, wonder in our eyes. I’ll admit, it was not all fun and sunshine, it was a little scary at first! Of course, we were not alone, an expert jumped together with us, and he clearly knew what he was doing.
The main thing I remember from the whole experience was my flying partner asking me whether or not I was afraid of jumping into an empty space. Unsurprisingly the answer was yes, his next command was to start running off the mountain when he said to. He immediately said to, I panicked, started trotting and finally jumped off the mountain only to be met with an incredible view and feeling.
It was a wonderful experience that we would recommend to anyone who isn’t too afraid of heights or jumping off pretty high places.
Sea Point definitely is worth a visit during your stay in Cape Town. For other activities or more tips and tricks you can of course always get in touch.
