K urland Village is nestled in the beautiful Garden Route which is on the South Coast of South Africa. This township village is one of destitute nature where daily life is completely different to how must of us are accustomed to.
Former police officer, Pieter Janse Van Rensburg has spent several years and mostly his personal resources to uplift the community of Kurland Village. He has among other efforts, built a clubhouse for the local rugby club, he is a trainer/coach of the rugby club, he organizes dance evenings, he helps Johanna with her Soup Kitchen and he teaches seniors how to grow cauliflower and spinach in their gardens. In short, Peter is doing a fantastic job!
Peter and Marc met each other in 1998 when they played rugby together for Knysna Rugby Club. Since then, they have become good friends and Marc visits Kurland Village several times a year. Marc has been aiding in Pieter's efforts to uplift Kurland Village by helping to raise funds. In January 2012, it finally became official when Marc set up a Dutch foundation aimed at raising funds to sponsor Peter in all his efforts.
The foundation "Friends of Kurland" aims to uplifting the community in particular the young community members by developing and improving the welfare of the community.
Together with Pieter, several projects were selected for which the Foundation "Friends of Kurland" will be raising funds. Are you interested in the activities of the foundation and would you like to contribute in uplifting Kurland Village, then please refer to the first newsletter of Madiba Travel.
Numerous travellers have met Pieter and together with him, they have visited Kurland Village; a visit that has made unforgettable impressions.
ExperiencesThe highlight of our trip was definitely the impressive visit to Kurland Village and the introduction to Pieter and his enormous involvement in this township.
